Ewwww! My hands stink after I’ve chopped some garlic or onions!
Simply washing with soap and water doesn’t seem to remove all the smell. I have some good news for you and it’s so simple!
All you need to do is pump a few drops of dishwashing soap on your stainless steel knife you’ve just used to cut those onions, and using your fingers wipe the flat side of the blade (keeping your fingers away from the sharp edge!) to clean your knife (be careful!). Rinse the knife and your hands and the odor is gone!
It’s backed by science!!
Why does this work? Simply explained, the sulfur from the onion and garlic is attracted to-and binds with-the metals in stainless steel. Onions and garlic contain amino acid sulfoxides-that forms sulfuric acid upon exposure to water. So, when you wipe your hands on the stainless steel and rinse with water-VOILA!-the sulfur compounds bind to the steel! Stinky hands gone-and you have a clean knife!
There’s also a stainless steel bar that looks like a soap bar or your stainless steel sink work the same way. That may be safer than putting your fingers close to the sharp edge of your knife!
Here’s your knife tip of the day…
PLEASE DO NOT put your sharp knives in the dishwasher! I hear you! But it’s terrible for your knives. Trust me, it only takes a minute to wash your knife and your knife will thank you for it too!
