Do Your Herbs & Spices Go Bad?

January is a great time to go through your spices and dried herbs and discard those that have been on your shelf for several years-or longer! Herbs and spices don’t go bad, however, they do lose their vibrant flavor, potency and color.  Here’s how you can test them.  Take a pinch and crush and rub in the palm of your hand-do they still give off their aroma or seem dull and lifeless?

It’s best to store your herbs and spices in a dark, cool cupboard away from heat and light in tightly sealed, non-porous containers (glass is best).

Start the year off cooking with herbs and spices that will create exciting flavors in the dishes you cook.
