The Best Easy Pizza Crust Recipe

Pizza Night Just Got Better!

Making your own pizza dough enhances the overall pizza night experience, providing you with the freedom to create personalized, fresh, and flavorful pizzas that simply can’t be matched by store-bought alternatives.

Why I love making pizza at home

  • Easy!  the dough can be made the same day or left to rise in the fridge overnight.  Both ways are awesome either way
  • Creative freedom!  Use your favorite toppings, sauces and flavor combinations.  Great way to use those leftovers too!
  • Economical!  Making your own pizza is cost effective and budget friendly
  • Family Fun!  Fun and engaging activity for the whole family and friends as it involves everyone in the pizza making process. You can also divide  the dough into individual portions so everyone can make their own pizza.
  • Versatility!  Instead of pizza, turn the dough into calzones, stromboli or even a dessert pizza.  Make it thin or thick crust

Ingredients for your easy pizza crust

  • All Purpose Unbleached Flour
  • Instant Yeast.  You won’t have to proof this yeast, just add it to the flour
  • Kosher Salt.  Diamond Crystal Kosher Salt
  • Extra Virgin Olive Oil
  • Warm water.  Water temperature should be 85° to 90°F

Sauce, Toppings and Cheese

  • Any store bought Pizza sauce of your choice will work, or make your own!
  • Grate your own cheese!  Pre-grated cheese has cellulose added to keep it from clumping in the bag BUT it also keeps it from melting nicely too. It might take you an extra few minutes to grate your cheese, but you will be rewarded with gooey, stringy melted cheese!
  • Everyone gets to have their favorite toppings on the pizza!  You get to decide on those unique toppings and how much to top it with.

Equipment

Ingredients

  • 2 cups Unbleached, All Purpose flour Plus more for shaping
  • 1 packet Instant Yeast
  • ½ teaspoon Granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Kosher Salt
  • ¾ cup Warm water Plus extra if needed, 90°-100℉
  • 1 teaspoon Extra Virgin Olive Oil

Instructions

  • Set an oven rack in the lowest position of the oven; place a pizza stone on the rack (if using). Preheat the oven to 450℉. Preheat the oven at least 30 minutes prior to baking the pizza
  • Combine the flour, yeast, salt and sugar in the bowl of a sand mixer fitted with the dough hook. Combine the warm water and oil in a measuring cup with a pouring spout
  • Mix the dry ingredients and slowly pour the warm liquid into the bowl. Mix until a dough form a ball. If the dough seems too dry, add up to 1 tablespoon of water, adding 1 teaspoon at a time until the dough pulls into a ball. After the dough forms a ball, continue mixing a medium speed for 2-3 minutes to knead
  • Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured work surface, and shape into a large ball. Cover with plastic wrap, and let rest for 10 minutes.
  • Divide the dough into 1 or 2 even pieces; shape each into a round ball. Cover with plastic wrap and let rest for 10 more minutes.
  • Using a rolling pin, roll out each ball of dough on parchment paper dusted with flour and top the pizza with desired ingredients. Simple is best, don't pile on the ingredients!
  • Use a pizza peel or pick up the ends of the parchment paper to transfer to the baking stone (if using) or a baking sheet turned upside down.
  • Bake until the edges of the pizza are golden brown and the bottom crust is crisp and the cheese is light brown and bubbly, about 10 minutes if cooking on a stone and 12 to 14 minutes if baking on a pizza pan or baking sheet. Remove from the oven and let it rest for 2 to 3 minutes before cutting.
  • Cut into wedges and serve immediately. If not serving immediately, put the pizza on a wire rack to keep the bottom of the crust from getting soggy. Keep the pizza warm in a 200℉ oven.

Notes

NOTE:

If you don't have a stand mixer, use a large bowl to combine ingredients. Mix with a spoon or by hand until incorporated then turn flour mixture out on the counter and knead for 5 minutes or until the dough becomes smooth.  Proceed with step 4

To make dough ahead:

Save yourself some time and mix your dough the night before!  Then all you have to do is let it come to room temperature and shape! Mix dough and place in a large greased bowl with a tight lid or plastic wrap on top.  Refrigerate for several hours or overnight. Let it come to room temperature before shaping.

To freeze dough:

Wrap refrigerated dough in plastic wrap or place in a zip top bag.  Use within a month.  When ready to use, transfer frozen dough to a counter top and allow to thaw completely and come to room temperature before shaping
